THE RESET - a simple breathing exercise for stress

Free guided breathing exercise to reduce stress and anxiety in five minutes

The Reset is a free, five-minute guided breathing exercise to help reduce stress, anxiety and physical tension.  Whether you're preparing for a meeting, struggling to switch off after work or simply noticing tension building, this short audio offers a gentle way to pause, slow your breathing and help your body become calmer.

The Reset combines slow breathing with gentle guided imagery to help interrupt the body's stress response. Unlike many breathing exercises that focus on counting breaths, it encourages your mind and body to settle naturally, wherever you are.

Sometimes five quiet minutes is enough to interrupt the cycle of stress and give yourself a chance to reset.

🌿 Start with the free audio below, or download the printable version to use whenever you need a quick reset.

A few words before you begin

Please do not use this recording while driving or operating machinery. Find a place where you can give yourself your full attention for the next few minutes.

Who is The Reset for?

This stress-relief breathing exercise may be helpful if you:

  • experience physical tension in your shoulders, neck or jaw
  • notice stress building before meetings or presentations
  • care for others and rarely take a moment for yourself
  • struggle to switch off in the evening
  • feel overwhelmed during a busy day
  • are living with anxiety and would like a simple grounding exercise
  • are navigating menopause and want a gentle way to settle your nervous system

You don't need any previous experience of meditation or hypnosis.

Just five quiet minutes.

How slow breathing helps reduce stress

When we're under pressure, our breathing often becomes quicker and shallower without us noticing. Slowing the breath sends signals to the nervous system that you're safe enough to begin settling.

The Reset combines slow breathing with gentle visualisation to help shift your attention away from racing thoughts and towards a greater sense of calm. It's not about emptying your mind or getting it perfectly right. Even noticing a small change is worthwhile.

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

If stress or anxiety has become a regular part of life, hypnotherapy can help address the underlying patterns as well as providing immediate tools like The Reset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at deborah@monarchhypnotherapy.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. The Reset is suitable whether you've used relaxation techniques before or not.

Yes. Many people find it helpful before stressful situations, after work or whenever they notice tension building.

No. The Reset is a simple guided breathing and visualisation exercise. It doesn't involve hypnosis, although some people find it a useful introduction to my style of guided relaxation

Yes, provided you're not driving, operating machinery, or engaging in any activity that requires your full attention.

Some people notice a change after one listen, while others feel slightly more settled. The aim isn't to empty your mind, but to give your nervous system a chance to slow down.
